So this is how it all went down...
On February 21st, at 3 a.m. I woke up to what seemed to be me emptying my bladder in bed. So of course, I jumped up and ran to the bathroom. Once I finished my business (or thought I had), I returned to bed. Within 10 minutes I was again "peeing in bed". I again, jumped up and ran to the bathroom. This time I began to wonder what the heck was going on. I was told that my bladder would never be the same as it once was, but this was just a little ridiculous! As I was heading back to bed, I began "leaking" again. Now this went on until I came to my senses and called my doctor around 4:15 a.m. She told me to head to the hospital to see if the baby had changed position and was pushing on my bladder or if my water had broke. We arrived at the hospital around 6 a.m. and the nursery was full of little newborn babies...15 to be exact. So of course, all the rooms were full. Greg and I were taken to a room in Triage where they did a test to see if the fluid was urine or amniotic fluid. With one swipe of the swab it became quite evident that we were going to have a baby!!! So we had to wait in Triage for a while until a room became available which wasn't a big deal as I was not having any contractions at this time. The doc told us to walk around and stay on our feet to help move things along. So Greg and I would just walk up and down the halls looking at all the new babies and talking about how we couldn't believe the time had finally arrived.
Finally our room was ready and by this time I still was only dilated 1 cm so they started me on Pitocin. And boy does this stuff work!! For those of you not familiar with Pitocin, it is a drug to help bring on contractions which in turn will help to dilate the cervix. Well within minutes I began having contractions. They weren't bad at all though. However, after 30 minutes of this stuff pumping into me, the lack of pain was just a memory. The contractions came on much faster and were extremely intense. Unfortunately, I still was not dilating. So by this time I said I want the epidural and I want it fast! So after the epidural, there was no pain, only pressure. There were times I didn't even know I was having a contraction. But after hours of this, I still had only dilated to 3.8 cm and the Pitocin and Brooke were not agreeing. Twice her heart rate dropped to less than half of what it was so they had to pull me off the Pitocin which in turn meant, I would not be contracting which meant I was not dilating. So finally it became eminent that a Cesarean birth was necessary. At first I will admit that I was bummed, but then I realized that it doesn't matter how this little baby inside me gets out, as long as he/she is delivered safely. So it was around 7 p.m. that they stared prepping for the surgery. Thankfully it was not an emergency C-section so Greg was able to be present. It only lasted for about 15 minutes and then I heard the most unforgettable sound....the sound of my baby crying! To be followed by the doctor saying, "It's a girl!" The feeling that went through my body is one that I will never be able to fully explain, but one that every mother out there is familiar with. So Greg went with the nurse to get Brooke all cleaned up and cut the umbilical cord and finally she was brought to my side. One look at her and I fell completely head over heels in love!! I never was more proud in my life of what Greg and I had accomplished. Together, we created an angel.
We want to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and best wishes. I have emailed pictures of Brooke to everyone that I have email addresses for so if you did not receive them, please send your email address to tonya925@gmail.com and I'll forward them to you.
Here are a few pics of our bundle of joy!!
